IMPORTANT: Let’s first talk about dose or amount of coconut oil a dog or cat can consume

How to use coconut oil in dogs and cats

Three are two main way of using coconut oil, on a pet skin or hair or orally

  • Skin: There is no limit at the amount of coconut oil you can use in a cat or dog skin or fur, simply apply coconut oil as needed it in an area.
  • Orally: In other words in their mouth eating it. IMPPRTANT:when giving a dog coconut oil never go over the dose or amount. Eating too much coconut oil can cause cardiovascular problems.

Amount: to eat or orally only once a week at the most of coconut oil. And only half of a small coffee spoon for a small dog or cat (a dog that is 4 to 5 kilos or around 8 to 12 pounds the dose is half of coffee spoon). A medium dog can eat one small spoon of coffee a.week. (If you don’t have a coffee spoon just put a little in the tip of a tea spoon).Important: Don’t go over the amount. And everything will be just fine.

  • Suggestion: In my opinion If you have any doubts about the amount it’s better to apply the coconut oil directly on the skin or fur of the dog or cat as a cream or oil because there is no limit in the amount you can apply in a pets body, fur or skin. You can use it as needed safety.
  • Laboratory- The coconut oil also is use in labs as medication at least in Europe and South America for sure.

There is a lot of useful information available here that I wasn’t aware of until I read your article.
Like the fact that you can use it as an oral treatment as well as topical. I have a dog and will use this treatment soon, as I am interested in the benefits my pet will receive from the naturally occurring vitamin  K and E!

I just love coconut oil, I like use it for a dozen things, not just in the kitchen haha. I even make my own toothpaste with it. So if it is good for me, why not for my dog, right? I didn’t even think about that, so thanks!

What a good idea by the way, to mix it up with regular dog shampoo, I will try this soon! My Golden Retriever has sensitive skin, maybe this could stop the itching that he seems to have sometimes?

Hello Lilly. I’m not 100% sure about the itching. I know is great for alergies,;wounds, Sacramento fleas, lice and thetbit recovers the skin. Try it. BI f not for sure his fur is going to to get skinnier. Apply it on his skin and masage into skin. Not orally.

Thanks for this important article regarding the application of coconut oil. I think I will personally use them to help my dogs out with their scratches. They really like to go out and get dirty whenever I let them outside, so sometimes they have scratches, like..the bad kind where an entire spot of fur is missing. I really need to keep a better eye on them, ugh.

Hello. David. If your dog  falls the entire fur he probably has an allergy. You should check him with your your veterinarian too. I had a cat that was allergic to flea and the vet gave me a flea and tick pill that was great for her.

Wow, this oil will really bring comfort to dogs especially those that have fleas and lice. I have seen dogs scratch to the point where it seems like they would remove their fur but an oil like this will help dogs and cats greatly. I am sure that owners of pets will be happy to come across your post that offers such great help.

It is clear and concise how coconut oil may assist your pets.
I learned a lot about a lot of things that I didn’t know about till I read your article.
The fact that it may be taken orally as well as used topically is a plus. For my dog, I want to utilise this medication because of the naturally occurring vitamin K and E that it contains!
