I didn’t know that salt in tomatoes was not good for our dog. Many times I have given him pizza leftovers, and he seems to enjoy them. I will be more careful from here on.
I expected alcohol or sugar to be bad for dogs as they are for humans. And they, in fact, are. But my list mas smaller than it should be.

Yes, of course dogs love and enjoy eating pizza but the fact is that the tomatoes have an element that is toxic for dogs. Just like we enjoy eating with sugar and drinking alcohol but it’s bad for us.  The chocolate is good for us but can actually kill a dog. If you go to a veterinarian and ask for a list of food dogs can’t eat, you can confirm that what I say is correct.

    Thank You!!

    Hi Claudia,

We have a beagle at our home and he is just like a family member for us. I know that chocolates and sweets are very harmful to dogs but the fact that salt and tomatoes are also harmful to them is new to me. Thank you for this information, we will keep this in mind. Are fruits with natural sweetness like watermelon and mangoes also harmful to dogs?

    • Claudia |March 22, 2022 at 2:39 am

Hello Hari. Actually watermelon is marvelous for dogs because is mostly water and it’s great to hydrate specially when it’s hot. The heat is realy bad for them. Important: take off the seeds and never give the skin of the watermelon.

Mango- yes you need to take off the seeds and skin. They can have only a couple of slices. If after12 to 24 hour they get a little bit of diareha just don’t give them more.   I’m going to post soon an articles on what fruits dogs can eat and how much at https://maxdoglovers.com I hope this helps

This is a great article about foods that dogs should avoid. I have 9 dogs at home. And I’m a bit surprised that salt will also kill dogs. I better let my parents know about this matter. May I know how much salt is considered too much? Because one of my dogs loves to eat a bit of salty food.

    • Claudia |March 22, 2022 at 2:15 am

Hello. Salt;doesn’t kill them like garlic, onions and tomatoes that are toxic for them. And for one time it’s not going to harm them but it will harm them with time. Thisnis why andogmshouldn’t eat any salt. You can replace thensalt with a tea spoon of Olive oilnextra.virgen or a little but of butter without salt.  You can check exact amount according to the dog’s size in the website: https://maxdoglovers.com. I hope this helps. If you have any doubts or question please feel free to text me.

Wow, I knew caffeine and chocolate was bad for dogs, but had no idea about the fact that onions and garlic were also bad. We often give our dog left over mince and it has onion and garlic in it. Luckily he has never gotten sick, but will definitely be more careful in the future.

Avo also seems to be bad for not only dogs but also parrots, so I wonder why it is actually good for us?

    • Claudia |March 22, 2022 at 1:59 am

Hello Michel: Great question. Some of the food that is good for us like garlic, onion and tomatoes are toxic for dogs. This is for various reasons. First of all the dog’s metabolisam is more sencitive then ours. Also a dog desents fromthe wolf. And dogs and wolf by nature are both carnivores in other word theynonly eat meat. For example the garlic has a component that is toxic to a dog’s metabolilism.

As apost to the human race. We humanbeings need to eat more vegetables then meat in order to be healthy. Our metabolism is very different from dog’s.

If check my website: https://maxdoglovers.com I have some posts that lists some of the vegetables they can eat and the amount. There plate needs to be mostly meat and maybe a piece of potato or sweet potato or rice boiled and without spices or salt
